Dear Mt. Slesse Middle School Families,
We are happy to have you as a member of our middle school family and look forward to knowing you better and assisting our students achieve their educational goals. I am very excited to be working with a talented and caring staff within a great school community. We know each other well and work together as a great team for the success of your children. Our students are excited, our teachers are busy, and we hope you as parents/guardians will find what you expected or hoped for when you joined the Mt. Slesse Middle School community.
The first day of school is Tuesday September 7. Our day will begin with a brief assembly at 8:30 in our gymnasium. Students will be admitted to the school at 8:00 am. They are to proceed to the gym where there will be lists posted by Advisory, showing student name, Advisory number, and the Teacher Advisor’s name. At the end of the assembly the Teacher Advisor’s name will be called and all students in that division will go to their Advisory meeting room. In Advisory, students will be issued their timetables and a copy of the Student Agenda Book. Students will also be assigned lockers by their Advisory teacher during this morning. Classes will be dismissed after our P.A. announcements at approximately 10:30 am. Students who are eligible for bus transportation will be able to catch their bus after dismissal
I look forward to meeting with you at our upcoming PAC meeting and annual Beans and Jeans/Meet the Teacher evening!
Sincerely,
Mr. Dan Heisler
Principal

We have a number of students that are now bringing personal laptops or netbooks to classes for school work. We have a procedure to allow students to gain internet access via our public wireless connection during class time while under the supervision of their teacher. The guidelines for student use is similar to our Acceptable Use for Computer Network and Internet Access Policy found in the student agenda books.
Parental consent and registration of the student's laptop/netbook will be requirements to access a wireless connection.

Timberwolf P.R.I.D.E./Stewardship Day - September 10, 2010 |
|
|
|
On Friday September 10th, all staff and students will participate in our Timberwolf P.R.I.D.E./Stewardship Day. The purpose of the day is to support our Growth Plan Goal #2: To improve our school community culture through social responsibility initiatives and increased home communication. The students will focus on three main areas related to social responsibility while participating in the sessions throughout the day: Community, Stewardship, and Positive Choices.
We are very fortunate to have Trent Arterberry present his new show, “Walking Through Walls” for our students. Mr. Arterberry has been a mime artist for over 30 years and has performed across North America, Europe and Asia, winning numerous awards. “Walking Through Walls” includes mime, monologue, music and comedy and it tells the story about how Mr. Arterberry became a mime artist. Portraying some of his own adolescent struggles, he provides the opportunity for students to reflect on their values, the consequence of their choices, and how to respond to the people and culture around them. A short question/answer period will follow the show so that students can learn more about this talented artist.
All students will also participate in our ‘Station Rotation’ training where specific procedures will be taught involving all areas of our school. It is imperative that ALL students are in attendance on this important day in order to understand the goals, procedures and routines expected for the remainder of the year.
